Born and raised in Northwest Montana, John Hendricks
had broadcasting on his mind from an early age. Following a 1968 tour of duty in Vietnam, he jumped into radio—initially
to finance his education. After receiving degrees from St Martin’s University, one of America’s premier small
colleges, he served as Sales Manager and General Manager of several smaller-market stations.
He decided to focus his
career as an on-air performer, which slingshot him to KUBE-Seattle and then to Denver and the original KIMN and later to KGYO.
There, John originated and developed an award-winning 7PM to Midnight show that has been emulated in every major market in
America. Hendricks joined Denver’s Jones Radio Networks as a host and then as a Programmer of the nationally syndicated
US Country and CD Country. Concurrently, he served as the first Director of Programming for Great American Country, Jones
Media Networks entry into the national country television arena. During his tenure at Jones, he hosted GAC’s signature
live-to-tape interview/performance show, “Behind the Scenes” and the syndicated “John Hendricks Overnight”
Hendricks took a break from his career in 2001 to spend time with his family after the sudden death of his Mother.
Following his Father’s death in 2002, he formed John Hendricks Broadcast Services and began consulting radio stations,
record companies and artists.
In the spring of 2004, he realized a life-long dream of returning to his hometown, Kalispell,
Montana. There, he hosted a morning show on News/Talk KOFI, the 50,000-watt AM station he grew up listening to. Off-air, he
spent a good deal of quality time on the golf course or backpacking in the Northern Rocky Mountains; or hip-deep with his
fly rod in the ice-cold Flathead River in the pursuit of fish.
His career called again…this time from New York
City. Music Choice was in search of someone to head its newly created Country Music Division and Nashville recommended Hendricks.
“It was a crazy left-turn in my life, but one I couldn’t refuse,” He says. “New York City is a long
ways from Northwest Montana, but broadcasting is done well here.”
Now back home in Northwest Montana, he continues
to work with radio stations, artists and independent record labels to develop new ways to taking their artist endeavors to
the marketplace. He is currently writing his second book, which he hopes will become the basis of a College course he plans
to teach next year.
John is a single father with two grown children and a young grandson. He enjoys fly fishing,
backpacking, camping, skiing and golf. His motorcycle tours have taken him the length and breadth of America. Hendricks is
a licensed Private Pilot and Amateur Radio station operator. Woodworking and Organic Gardening are continuous passions in
